New Subscription Internet Site for Art History Curriculum in Secondary Schools

A new Internet subscription-service program for secondary schools, designed by Beyond Books, focuses on art history. It features a 20,000 year survey of the history of painting, from prehistoric times to the present, and it encompasses major artistic movements and styles and individual artists and their works.

A primary goal is to show students the importance of studying art and to demonstrate that art is a way to record the thinking of the time. Links to websites for nearly every art museum in the world allow students to compare artists side by side in a way they have never been able to before. Interactive activities, quizzes, vivid graphics, and animations are included. The "Business of Art" section gives insights into the "real world" of art careers.

Original content for the site was written by award-winning teachers. The content is designed to conform to national standards for (art) education. Links to other educational websites are provided. The Beyond Books program was recently awarded the "Best General Curriculum Web Site" by Curriculum Administrator Magazine.

Schools interested in the program gain access by purchasing annual subscriptions to the programs (subjects) of their choice. Visit www.beyondbooks.com and the take the "Live Tour." To get to the free section of the History of Painting program, see: www.beyondbooks.com/art11/2.asp.
